For a long time, things looked really bleak for fans of Disco Elysium. After a lengthy legal dispute between the studio and leading developers had caused trouble, it became apparent in February 2024 that a planned successor had been canceled.
But now there are suddenly three brand new studios of former developers who want to develop a successor. We already reported on the first announcement on Friday and even elicited the first details from one of the developers. In the meantime, two more games have been announced.
Who are the disco heirs?
First of all there is XXX Nightshift from the studio Dark Math Games. Timo Albert, who worked as a graphic designer on Disco Elysium, is involved here. In total, half of the 20-person team is said to have worked on the hit role-playing game.
A lot is already known about the Dark Math Games project. On the official Steam page
You are patrol officer Dinorah Katz, spending her weekend vacation at World’s End Ski Resort on Mount Hope in Antarctica. But the situation is on the verge of getting out of hand.
You’re now stranded at the off-season resort with unforgettable guests, wild parties and insane secrets. The world of XXX Nightshift is at your feet – explore it with advanced role-playing systems.
Nightshift also promises a real detective role-playing game
and significant decisions that shape the course of the story. A special companion mechanic is intended to make it possible to solve cases in different ways.
However, the statement from developer Timo Albert is likely to cause skepticism among some fans fewer words, more bullets and a lot more fun

Disco Elysium: The GameStar team honors the new 9th place in our role-playing game ranking
Not a title, but a manifesto
We know significantly less about what the new studio is about Summer Eternal plans. Two authors from Disco Elysium, namely Argo Tuulik and Olga Moskvina, are working on the as yet unnamed project. Voice actor Lenval Brown is also on board.
The game of Summer Eternal is described with as a cultural mega-project, a role-playing game, with complexity and ambition that rivals our wretched and wonderful world
. There are no pictures, a trailer or even a name for the project yet.

In return, the developers discuss their dissatisfaction with the games industry and their own plans for the studio in a manifesto:
Our goal is to unite world-class artists and creatives in a truly independent studio that always prioritizes artistic integrity over personal comfort, profit margins, short-term goals and large tech profit bubbles.
Of course, it remains questionable whether one of the three studios will manage to outdo the great role model or just come close to the unique role-playing game. To date, Disco Elysium is the highest rated game on Metacritic, with an incredible average of 97 points.
Steffi, who is a big fan of role-playing games, is probably also skeptical. Long before the announcement by the three studios, a sequel to Disco Elysium was impossible for them.
