Netflix’s live-action series One Piece is a long time coming. But that will change soon. The streaming giant is announcing a summer event and the adaptation looks set to feature prominently there.
My Hero Academia, One Piece… Netflix isn’t afraid to adapt manga for large live-action communities. The streaming giant has tried the exercise multiple times, with the result we know. Death Note, Cowboy Bepop and several other works are often referred to as “massacre” by manga enthusiasts. But the platform signs and perseveres, strongly believing in its future programs. With the One Piece series, Netflix faces a major challenge: fulfilling the long-standing dream of Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s creator, and convincing readers of the work. The platform is cautious in communicating about its adaptation, content to give us an overview of the characters from behind. But we should soon finally learn what Luffy and his crew will really look like soon.
This is where the One Piece series was supposed to appear
Netflix’s One Piece series has been making headlines lately. False rumours, stolen footage from the shoot showing costumes, release date and official poster have leaked – the noose around the adaptation is tightening. The streaming giant is proceeding with caution, but the program expected for this year should finally be in good and proper form soon. A new Netflix Tudum
A global event where subscribers can discover new images of their favorite series and films live from their sofa, but also get a glimpse of upcoming programs. It’s confirmed that One Piece will be there, as will the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is also highly anticipated. The platform promises a whole host of announcements, reveals, and previews of all kinds. The Witcher, Wednesday, Strangers ThingsDuBerlinSquid GameExtraction 2 or Cobra Kai are all programs that will take part in the celebrations.
Finally a release date?
The One Piece series should still be one of the headliners of the event. In fact, all of the adaptation’s main cast, namely the Straw Hat crew, will be present at the event. We should therefore be entitled to new information, images and most certainly, finally, a first trailer that will have the difficult task of reassuring an entire community ready to embrace Netflix. The stolen images and the official Vogue Merry poster have already sparked heated debate. At the same time, the streaming giant is also expected to announce the release date of the One Piece series. It is possible that the September 23rd date proposed by the show’s cameraman will be confirmed on this occasion. See you on June 17th to find out.
