The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 will go down in video game history. There are many reasons for that. Few titles like him have generated so much criticism and controversy. This is due to a disastrous hit on home consoles. But once you put its many technical problems aside, Cyberpunk 2077 is not without its qualities. And to believe those in charge of CD Projekt, it is these last ones that enable the game to assert itself in the long term.
CD Projekt is convinced that Cyberpunk 2077 will in retrospect be called “very good game. “ And not only that, but that, like the other titles in the studio, it will have a long commercial career. At least that is what Adam Kiciński from CD Projekt said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita (website comments VGC
We believe Cyberpunk 2077 will be considered a very good game in the long run. And that, like our other titles, will sell for years. Especially since the hardware is becoming more and more powerful and we will continue to improve the game.
We are constantly working on updates. And we’re also working on a version of the game for the latest generation of consoles. Obviously, the original edition taught us a lot. She kicked us in the butt and motivated us to make changes that will make us better in the future.
CD Projekt is still growing in Cyberpunk 2077 …
Adam Kiciński continues to talk about the ambitious nature of Cyberpunk 2077. And he believes the brand associated with the game continues to enjoy a good image around the world:
Releasing a game that is linked to a new license poses many risks and challenges. And all the more so when the concept is so complex. We brought to life a huge, vibrant, futuristic city called Night City, which is where the characters’ non-linear stories take place.
We pride ourselves on many aspects of the game, but as you know, not all of it was in our favor. Regardless, the cyberpunk brand we have been able to generate is enormous. The game’s universe, its characters and details have fans all over the world.
However, the CD Projekt manager does not mention exactly what caused the game to launch problems. For example, he doesn’t say that his company rushed to release Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One. As a reminder, these two consoles were technically incapable of running the game as it was designed.
… But is the damage done?
In addition, the Polish studio deliberately hid these versions from the press and the public until the last moment. The fact that Adam Kiciński talks about hardware developments clearly shows that the game was released too early on consoles. And it wouldn’t be surprising if updated versions were released later on future consoles. Before that, however, CD Projekt would have to install the PS5 and Xbox Series X | Loop S versions of Cyberpunk 2077.
However, it is questionable whether Adam Kiciński is getting it right when he talks about the long-term commercial potential of Cyberpunk 2077. A rather negative image surrounds the game, and a new PS4 version of the game is now available for less than 20 dollars. Knowing that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will receive free updates for the next-gen versions, the commercial impact of introducing the latter could be partially reduced.
What do you think of Adam Kiciński’s statements? Do you think he’s there? That his assessment of the situation is correct? What image of Cyberpunk 2077 do you keep? Are you still waiting for the next-gen versions of the game? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
