To attract new subscribers, Sony does not hesitate to offer great gifts from time to time and in particular to offer free trials of games on the PS Plus Premium. This is particularly the case today.
With the proliferation of platforms and offerings of free games and other trials, it can sometimes be difficult to be competitive. But PlayStation regularly offers some offers to attract potential customers to PS Plus Premium. Of course, it’s also an opportunity to shine a spotlight on a game that sometimes goes unnoticed due to the discontinuous flood of releases on PS5. This time it’s about discovering Ultros, revealed during the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023. Quite a program
A great Metroidvania game for PS Plus Premium
Today’s PS Plus Premium free trial is Ultros. It is a psychedelic metroidvania developed by Hadoque and published by Kepler Interactive and was released on February 13, 2024. In this game, players awaken in the Sarcophagus, a cosmic location that houses an ancient and demonic being. Trapped in a time loop within a black hole, players must explore this environment, interact with its inhabitants and understand the role they play. Ultros stands out for its unique art style and exploration of themes of mental health, life, death, and karmic cycles.
Ultros’ gameplay relies heavily on an original energy system, where eating fruit and parts of defeated enemies allows players to gain power and learn new skills. Each consumable provides specific nutrients and heals the protagonist when needed.
It is of all beauty
Ultros also features a unique gardening system that allows players to plant various seeds found throughout their adventure. These plants can bear fruit during one cycle to heal and potentially unlock an upgrade, but can also grow to make navigating the game world easier in the next cycle. Some plants form ledges, while others can destroy obstacles blocking the path, encouraging players to use this system to progress more efficiently.
Combat in Ultros requires players to vary their attacks to capture high-value body parts from enemies. Enemies are generally not difficult to defeat, so it’s easy to combine series of attacks to take them out and get higher quality meat, which is essential for unlocking upgrades and additional unique abilities.
Finally, we have to admit that the game is of rare beauty. We’ll let you judge from the video above. With PS Plus you can enjoy all of this for 1 hour. Then it’s up to you to have fun. Or not. Note that the reviews on Steam are very good.
