One of the largest electronics retailers in Europey, Mindfactory, gives a closer look at its sales figures. The Twitter user TechEpiphany has evaluated the corresponding data of current graphics cards in the 13th calendar week of the year 2023.
The result: In total, Mindfactory sold 2,375 graphics cards. 905 of these were Nvidia graphics cards and 1,470 AMD graphics cards. So do Nvidia graphics cards only
about 38 percent of total sales.
The majority of graphics cards sold, or almost 62 percent, come from AMD. Intel does not appear in the statistics because the company’s graphics cards sold were not evaluated. But in this snapshot, how come AMD’s not necessarily of every expected success?
The most popular graphics cards at a glance
Only one card is from Nvidia among the five best-selling graphics cards: the RTX 3060. All other graphics cards are from AMD. First, let’s take a look at the top 5 and approximate pricing based on Mindfactory’s current offering:
placement | graphic card | Copies sold | Preis |
---|---|---|---|
1 | RTX 3060 | 260 | from 320 dollars |
2 | RX 6700 XT | 240 | from 399 dollars |
3 | RX 7900 XT | 230 | from 848 dollars |
4 | RX 7900 XTX | 220 | from 1,099 dollars |
5 | RX 6800 | 200 | from 529 dollars |
The RTX 3060 is arguably one of the best value for money Nvidia graphics cards of the last generation. Therefore, it is not so surprising that the graphics card is the number one graphics card sold at Mindfactory.
Also no surprise is the RX 6700 XT in second place. This is also a good graphics card from the latest generation, which, like the RTX 3060, is available for well under 500 dollars. It offers even better performance in video games, but is also more expensive than the RTX 3060.
The RX 7900 XT is the first current graphics card. It was released at the end of 2023, so it has to compete with the latest graphics cards from Nvidia.
In the test, the RX 7900 XT ranks below the RTX 4080, but above the RTX 3080. With its price starting at 848 dollars on Mindfactory, it is significantly cheaper than an RTX 4080, which is available on Mindfactory from 1,239 dollars. The similarly fast RTX 4070 Ti also costs more there, more precisely around 890 dollars.
The situation is similar with the RX 7900 XTX. In terms of performance, it is nowhere near the RTX 4090 from Nvidia. However, it shows similarly good values as the RTX 4080 at a price that is 200 dollars lower.
When playing with ray tracing, Nvidia still tends to be one step ahead, but it probably doesn’t (so far) matter too much. This is also shown by our most recent survey on the subject. You can find out more about this here:
The RX 6800 brings up the rear of the best-selling graphics cards in the 13th week of 2023. It is in direct competition w ith the RTX 3070 and the 2080 Ti. At Mindfactory, an RTX 3070 costs around 530 dollars, so it is similarly more expensive RX 6800. Nevertheless, many customers seem to opt for the AMD graphics card.
Why are AMD’s higher sales figures?
In the current economic situation, many Mindfactory customers are more likely to focus on it inexpensive
Cards that perform well for a longer period of time.
Nvidia’s RTX 3060 and AMD’s RX 6700 XT can both still generate more than 60 fps in current game titles. Both graphics cards will probably continue to be able to display new games in 1080p at medium to high settings for years to come.
In the higher price segment, AMD graphics cards are currently cheaper than Nvidia graphics cards. AMD’s RX 7900 XT is similarly fast to the RTX 4070, but costs 50 dollars less. The situation is similar with the RX 7900 XTX: This is similar in strength to the 4080, but is even cheaper by around 200 dollars.
Accordingly, it is understandable that customers choose AMD for high-performance graphics cards. At the same time, you have to remember that this is just a weekly snapshot from a single Europe shop. It is interesting nonetheless.
