News culture “A wonderful experience” This Rebel Moon actor left the Game of Thrones series after three episodes: it was not his decision
Like several other actors, Ed Skrein was replaced after three episodes of Game of Thrones. A decision whose origins are not clear. But that didn’t stop the first interpreter of Daario Naharis from getting back on his feet.
Three episodes and then gone
game of Thrones is without a doubt one of the television series that marked the 2010s, as shown by the presence of episode 9 of the third season of the series in the top 100 of the specialized website IMdB. It has the title The Rains of Castamere
You played the role of Daario in three episodes of Game of Thrones and it has been suggested that you leave the series to star in Transporter. Was that the case?
NO. I mean, it wasn’t. This was reported in the press, but it was much more political. My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones long term. That was always my plan. I would have liked to have done it. It was a wonderful experience, but politics caused us to part ways.
A hard blow for the actor, who then signals that he will not let himself be defeated. That we have to move forward. A mentality that clearly favored him as he continued to conquer important roles.
From the small to the big screen
In fact, we got to see him again in several major films after that. He plays the antagonist Ajax from the first film Dead Poolis present on screen for the film Alita: Battle Angel. He is also part of the cast of the science fiction film Rebel Moon. Different roles, but this time for the big screen. Enough to be far from the habits of Ed Skrein, who pointed this out to Entertainment Weekly in 2015:
It was a big step out of my comfort zone. I didn’t feel like I belonged. And filming was difficult. It was a real baptism of fire, but it was a good start for me to move on to bigger films Transporter et Dead Poolwhile continuing to work on smaller budget independent films. When you start off with an incredibly difficult and dark film with a lot of tension on set, the only way to go is up.
Funny enough to be mentioned, he shares the poster for Rebel Moon with one Michiel Huisman. The latter was chosen to take on the role of Daario Naharis in seasons 4, 5, 6 of game of Thrones. A replacement that didn’t seem personal at the time. HBO swapped out several actors throughout Game of Thrones’ airing. Without claiming to be exhaustive, this was the case, for example, with Gregor Clegane (Conan Stevens, Ian Whyte, then Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) or even Tommen Baratheon (Callum Wharry, then Dean-Charles Chapman).
