In the most exciting news that no one could have predicted, A24 and Kojima Productions appear to have confirmed that they are collaborating on the Death Stranding movie that was announced a year ago.
Some Twitter/X users quickly discovered and shared that A24’s online store had placed an order for a new “A24 x Kojima Productions” T-shirt, which features the production company’s name in the style of the Death Stranding logo. You can check it out here.
If you’re willing to spend $40 for a nondescript T-shirt about a movie that may still be stuck in development limbo, be sure to buy it soon, as the first batch will likely sell out quickly. The official description confirms what would normally appear in an official press release: “It’s official: We’ve teamed up with Kojima Productions to produce a live-action film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s critically acclaimed video game Death Stranding. Our new DS-style A24 logo tee features a custom A24 x Kojima Productions woven label to get you excited.” So they’re essentially asking Kojima diehards to launch a marketing campaign for a movie that doesn’t exist yet. Cool.
Honestly, we should have seen this coming from a mile away. With Hideo Kojima being hailed as the greatest video game director of two decades, and A24 completely gobbling up this space in the film industry, it felt like a match that was destined to happen. It also raises the question of who they’re going to write and direct the movie, since we don’t want A24 and Kojima using traditional Hollywood names, especially when the source material is already pretty weird. Beyond that, what happened to Hammerstone Studios’ key role in the project?
Expect news about one of the most challenging video game adaptations of all time to increase in 2024.
