If you’re still wondering why so many manufacturers are now releasing mobile offshoots of their brands, you only have to look at Activision Blizzard’s new business figures.
Uff. It shouldn’t be a secret that Mobile brings in quite a bit of money. The fact that mobile games even beat PC and consoles together in terms of sales is a little surprising. At least that’s the case with Activision Blizzard.
According to the latest financial report from the second quarter of 2022, the publisher generated a whopping 832 million US dollars in sales – with mobile games alone. The PC at 332 million and the consoles at 376 million, on the other hand, look pretty old and don’t even come close to mobile combined.
All in all, not so good news for the publisher, because compared to the same period last year, sales for PC and consoles have almost halved, while mobile has increased slightly. In Q2 2021, the consoles had still generated sales of 740 million and the PÜC for 628 million US dollars, while mobile was 795 million. In Q2 of this year, however, there were hardly any releases worth mentioning, and Call of Duty on PC and console is weakening in both Vanguard and Warzone. Call of Duty: Mobile, on the other hand, is extremely successful.
Mobile sales at Activision Blizzard continue to benefit from its acquisition of King six years ago, but the controversial but strong launch of Diablo Immortal has certainly played its part in ensuring the mobile division continues to thrive. This is also shown by the user numbers at Blizzard: from 22 million active users per month in March, it rose sharply to 27 million users, not least thanks to Diablo Immortal.
