The good news is that if you were ever disappointed with the classic Wii Play pool mini game from 2006/2007 (depending on where you live), someone has finally managed to play a perfect round of it, hitting all nine balls in one shot. It’s the first time that’s ever happened, and it’s no mean feat to pull it off.
If you’re not familiar with Wii Play, first of all, where have you been? Secondly, that’s okay, I’ll do my best to explain how we got here, and this great video from YouTuber cyndifusic was a big help, detailing the work we put in to get to this point.

First, let’s look at the final result below – a player named ElectrifiedStrawberry just achieved a perfect match, hitting nine pool balls with a single breaking shot. Now, take this seriously, it’s an art, especially since your own Mii’s face is attached to the cue ball you hit.
So, as ElectrifiedStrawberry explains in the video description, that shot was the result of “months of decompiling the game, building a brute force cracker, and then ultimately searching through millions of shots to find the fabled 9-ball breaking shot.” That’s right, digging into the game’s code (which would be nearly impossible to do without the help of any of the tools used here) and developing a program that basically hits the ball over and over again until it finds the perfect seed needed to hit the nine-ball breaking shot.
As cyndifusic explains near the top of the video I linked, this is necessary because, as speedrunners have discovered, no two breaking balls in Wii Play Pool will ever be the same, no matter how many variables you try to control. Why? Because every time you set up breaking balls, the game code randomizes where each ball spawns, but the variation is so small that nobody would notice. Really.
So, armed with this knowledge, ElectrifiedStrawberry was finally able to prepare and execute this shot, becoming the first player to hit a century nine times. To put it simply, only about four players in 17 years have been able to hit eight centuries.
Yeah, that’s pretty impressive, even if he didn’t do it the way you’d expect, just through playing the game regularly and getting a huge amount of luck.
