In the first act, a blue jay named Topaz has a key to find, the use of which remains hidden to many players.
Do you know a bird called Topaz or have you been lugging around a shiny key since the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3? No? Don’t worry, many other players are also unaware of the feathered creature or the door opener, despite over a hundred hours of playing time.
A key without a keyhole
Reddit user Pandattak is one of the players who didn’t know for a long time what the shiny key from Act 1 can be used for.

What kind of bird is that? Topaz is one of the animals found in the hollow in the Druid Grove. The bird sits a good distance to the right of the bear napping on the elevator.
In his nest you will find all sorts of glittery things, including a shiny key. However, you cannot simply take it, because that would be theft and the druids would be very angry with you.
The key can either be stolen from hiding or you can get the bird to hand over the key by using the Speak to Animals spell.

Reddit users eabevella goes one step further and writes: “I have over 1,600 hours and I didn’t know there was a chest there.”
So how do you get to the treasure?
The ruin’s ledge is too high for a jump, but spells like “Miststep” or “Fly” are a simple solution. If you want to be a bit more creative, you might build a ladder out of crates or summon a “Magic Hand” and give the crate a nudge.
Pandattak found in the chest only some gold and a ringother players at least report a few potions, scrolls or some arrows as loot.
Maybe many people simply miss the key because they can pick most locks with Astarion. Or they let Karlach throw chests against some wall. Smoke powder bombs, for example, are also inelegant but effective. In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are far more exciting options than a key to open something.
