The
Massachusetts officials have ordered all GameStop stores across the state to temporarily close their doors to smooth out the coronavirus curve in the area.
Prior to this, retailers claimed that this was an essential business in grocery stores and pharmacies and continued to work hard to provide services to customers through roadside pickup.
A report in the Boston Globe confirmed that city inspectors ordered the closure of GameStop ’s location in Dorchester last Tuesday. The store remained open that Wednesday and received annoying references, but was not fined. GameStop confirmed that it closed all its stores in Massachusetts on Thursday.
Although many stores follow the temporary closure guidelines, GameStop argues that it insists on selling "products and equipment that are essential to facilitate remote work, distance learning, and virtual connections" to remain open. Employees were told "to wear gloves and even seal the plastic bag with tape, only open the front door slightly, while keeping the glass between them and the customer, and then hand over everything they ordered to the crack.
In late March, the company introduced a new compensation policy that provides employees with two weeks of paid leave (if qualified). Those who are not qualified will calculate the two-week basic salary based on the average number of working hours per week for the past two months.
