Long before the official announcement, everyone was talking about the ominous DMZ for Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Established leakers and insiders promised a mode that wants to compete with games like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown.
DMZ was then officially unveiled only recently – and encountered more disillusionment and criticism than enthusiasm and praise. Developer Infinity Ward probably draws immediate consequences: A beta phase awaits us for the launch of DMZ on November 16th and thus not a complete and polished game mode.
Shooter and Call of Duty expert Dimi has already analyzed: DMZ must first prove that it can compete with the genre heavyweights and answer a few serious questions by the time of release at the latest.
CoD MW2 & Warzone 2
The large DMZ mode sounds great, but the most important question remains unanswered
DMZ is coming – but for now as a beta
What is DMZ anyway? DMZ will be a separate mode for CoD Warzone 2, which is playfully based on extraction or raid multiplayer such as Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown, Marauders or the Dark Zone from The Division (2).
That means concretely: With our squad, we plunge into the Warzone 2 map Al Mazrah, which is populated by AI geeks, and fight with other players there for valuable loot. But the big reward is only available if we successfully withdraw from the turmoil of battle. DMZ follows a classic high risk/high reward principle.
After months of rumors and leaks about DMZ, the official announcement and unveiling of the Warzone 2 game mode followed just a few days ago. However, DMZ has not really caught fire with CoD players and fans – as the following video by YouTuber JesseKazam shows, for example:

There’s criticism for this: Among other things, it is criticized that DMZ feels that it does not stand out enough from the classic Battle Royale experience, that there is not enough atmosphere on the bright Al Mazrah map and that it remains very opaque at the moment when it comes to long-term motivation.
Of course, DMZ must also be able to compete with established genre representatives who target their own type of player. Titles like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown are completely designed and focused on this, so Warzone 2 faces the great challenge of being able to keep up.
Due to this criticism, Infinity Ward seems to have already drawn consequences: Im latest update of the official developer blog DMZ will now be beta sealed ahead of its launch on November 16, 2022 – so we’re not expecting a full and complete game mode on November 16th.
It is even explicitly emphasized that you can’t do anything with DMZ copy
wants what fans already know from other games. In the future, the Warzone 2 mode will be further improved and expanded.
