While Google is taking a significant step backwards with Stadia, Amazon is still a long way from giving up in the video game sector despite severe setbacks. Instead, it is expanded: in a Press release the shipping giant announces the establishment of a new development studio in Montreal.

New World will show that Amazon can’t do witches
The goal: a new multiplayer brand
After Seattle, Orange County and San Diego, Montreal now has an Amazon Games studio outside of the USA for the first time. The idea of development remains the same, however: online multiplayer games are to be created here as well.

Proven developers: In order for the goal to work, Amazon grabbed four leading developers from Ubisoft. Luc Bouchard, Xavier Marquis, Alexandre Remy and Romain Rimokh were involved in the development of Rainbow Six: Siege for the French publisher for many years.
Until the end of 2019, Marquis and Remy worked as creative and brand directors in the core team of Rainbow Six: Siege, where they were significantly involved in the transformation into a successful esports shooter. Most recently they worked on a new but still secret project at Ubisoft.

At Amazon, the team now wants to start something new, as Marquis explains as the longstanding creative director of Rainbow Six: Siege:
“Building on eight years of Siege experience, we look forward to starting something completely new and having the creative freedom to create a completely unique multiplayer experience.”
Amazon Games: Not a success story yet
With the establishment of another studio, Amazon shows the will to continue to gain a foothold in the video game industry. So far, the shipping giant has had a hard time developing its own games:
- The implementation of its own prime series The Grand Tour Game failed and is no longer available for purchase.
-
The hero shooter Crucible also flopped: Shortly after its release, the game was put back into beta. But that didn’t help. In the end, Crucible was completely discontinued because Amazon no longer saw a successful future.
