Paramount Pictures France has unveiled the trailer for Sonic 3. The opportunity to get to know the cult character played by Keanu Reeves a little better.

Director Jeff Fowler is back to tackle the third installment of his Sonic adaptation, the trailer for which h as just been released by Paramount. The lineup once again features an all-star cast including Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, newcomers Alyla Browne and Krysten Ritter, and another new (and significant) presence: Keanu Reeves, who joins the popular franchise as Shadow.
The trailer therefore finally presents the emblematic character Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic’s famous rival, played by Reeves. The film picks up where the previous one left off: Shadow awakens from a 50-year cryostasis. The plot, in turn, is here: Sonic, Tails and Knuckles must face an unprecedented threat: ShadowThe latter is extremely powerful and sows terror. To stop him, our heroes must join forces with Dr. Robotnik despite their differences.
Sonic returns to the movies this Christmas for his greatest adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles and Tails face a new enemy: Shadow, a mysterious and powerful enemy with new powers. Outmatched on every level, Team Sonic must form an unlikely alliance to stop Shadow and protect our planet.
A film inspired by a cult game
The other good news is that this next Sonic movie promises to be rich in references for early fans. EIn fact, the actor who voices Sonic, Ben Schwartz, has confirmed that the third installment is largely inspired by Sonic Adventure 2. The parallels are quite numerous, from the film’s logo, which is reminiscent of the game’s, to the plot, which seems to pick up on certain key elements. Sonic 3 is looking to hit hard, as the first two feature films still grossed $320 million (despite COVID-19) and $405 million, respectively, at the worldwide box office. The film is scheduled to be released in French cinemas on December 25th.
And we also remind you that before the release of Sonic 3 in theaters, a miniseries based on Knuckles will be available on Paramount+. This production will serve as a bridge between the two films and will explore the echidna’s adaptation to life on Earth. Accompanied by Sheriff Wade Whipple, Knuckles will have to face new enemies who are after his powers. Sonic and Tails will also make brief appearances.
