Development on the DLC-sized Fallout New Vegas mod Fallout New Mexico has been officially confirmed to be “on hold.” The mod was “deactivated” about two months ago, with parts of its YouTube channel, Twitter account, and Discord server either deleted or no longer regularly updated.

If you’re not in the know, Nuevo Mexico is a mod that was originally announced in 2021, and aims to give New Vegas players a brand new adventure in and around New Mexico five years after the events of Interplay’s original Fallout game. Prior to April, it had already released a couple of rather interesting-looking trailers, and its creators were recently interviewed in March of this year to talk about their plans for the mod.

Following questions raised at the time of the mod’s closure and growing speculation about its status earlier this week, Nuevo Mexico Public Relations Director JK-Serling released the following statement on the mod’s Discord server.

“I want to share [Nuevo Mexico project lead] Zapshock and the mod project Fallout: New Mexico,” they wrote. “The project has been on hold for some time and Zapshock has decided not to actively participate in the community. At this time, Zapshock will not be on Discord or any social media platforms.”

“If you need to get in touch with us regarding mods or have any questions, please contact me,” JK-Serling continued. “I will be taking over those duties and will be your point of contact moving forward. If Zapshock decides to start modding again, they will only be in contact with close friends and developers. I will also post updates and respond to messages once they return.”

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Fallout: New Mexico.”

A statement on Fallout Nuevo Mexico's Discord server confirmed the event has been suspended.

This appears to be the first official acknowledgement of the suspension, and even some modders and voice actors working on the project seemed caught off guard by the initial suspension. “As a VA on the team, I had absolutely no idea,” one Reddit user wrote on April 19 in an r/Fallout thread that began by asking what happened to the mods. “Everything just disappeared overnight.”

We have reached out to JK-Serling and will update this article as soon as possible if he has any further details or comments about the mod situation.

One big Fallout mod currently in development is Fallout: London, whose developers recently confirmed a new internal release date due to delays caused by Fallout 4’s next-gen update.
