News culture After Reacher, Amazon offers us an action film with Jake Gyllenhaal: The slap will be severe!
This remake of an ’80s film, scheduled for release next March, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as he transforms into a former MMA fighter turned bar bouncer ready to beat up some people in Florida.
The remake of a cult film
Amazon is preparing great things for Prime Video subscribers. On March 21st it’s time to discover Road House, the remake of the film of the same name, released in the late ’80s and starring Patrick Swayze. This time it’s Jake Gyllenhaal who stars in this project, which presents itself as pure, uninhibited entertainment.
In this remake, protagonist Elwood Dalton becomes a former MMA star who returns to work as a bouncer at a Florida bar to help a manager clean up after customers. An excellent excuse to offer spectators a good dose of street fighting in an idyllic setting. A frankly promising mix, unfortunately marred by controversy.
Amazon vs. cinema
With Jake Gyllenhaal at the helm of the billboard and Doug Liman (“La Mémoire dans la Peau,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”) as director, Road House had everything to give us an excellent movie-going moment to offer. Unfortunately, the film will be released directly on Prime Video. A situation that greatly displeased the director, who blamed Amazon for it.
According to Doug Liman, Amazon fully supported the film’s team and was actually planning a theatrical release before backing out, firing producer Joel Silver and asking to use artificial intelligence software to complete the feature. From then on, the filmmaker refused to promote his film, especially during the SXSW festival. In addition, while Road House will be released directly to Prime Video, Jake Gyllenhaal will be deprived of an Oscar nomination, as Doug Liman reminds deadline
