Good news for fans of DreamWorks studios: the highly anticipated live-action Dragons film has just seen its first-ever leaker trailer. And that’s reassuring!
The live-action version of Dragons is on everyone’s lips after the HD teaser leaked. This first look was originally shown in some theaters this weekend and was quickly shared online. And one thing is for sure: Toothless, the famous dragon, is already stealing the show with an impressive visual display. The Dean DeBlois-directed film will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025.
A faithful but modern adaptation of Dragons
The teaser shows the beginning of the story where Hiccup, encouraged by his father, has to prove his worth by killing a dragon. But everything changes when he meets Toothless, a wounded dragon. This iconic scene, taken straight from the 2010 animated film, suggests that this live-action version will be very faithful to the original.
Some rumors even suggest that this remake could follow a shot-by-shot approach, much in the style of Disney’s The Lion King in 2019. Dean DeBlois, already at the helm of the animated trilogy, seems to remain close to the essence of the work while modernizing its universe.
Toothless, the real hero
The teaser may be short, but it was enough to reassure fans on one key point: Toothless is still just as charismatic. His carefully produced live-action version impresses with its realism and faithfulness to the original design. This first preview promises high-quality special effects that can bring the fantastic creatures of this universe to life.
Universal Pictures has assembled a solid cast for this remake. Mason Thames (The Black Phone) plays Harold, while Nico Parker (The Last of Us) plays Astrid. Gerard Butler returns as Stoick and other names such as Nick Frost, Julian Dennison and Ruth Codd round out the cast.
Jay Baruchel, the original voice of Hiarold in the animated films, expressed his enthusiasm for this adaptation. He was proud of Dean DeBlois’ work and trusted that this new version could appeal to a new generation as well as early fans.
