A new scam for The Day Before developers?
Fntastic recently announced its return with a rebrand called Fntastic 2.0, accompanied by the launch of Escape Factory, a free-to-play game. The studio is hoping to relaunch through a Kickstarter campaign. But the community is not convinced. The mistrust is palpable, especially after the debacle of The Day Before, which left many players feeling cheated.
As a reminder, The Day Before was presented as an ambitious project, but expectations were never met. The game was quickly taken off the market, which caused anger and incomprehension among players. Today, Fntastic hopes to reach a turning point with Escape Factory. But the initial returns are not very encouraging.
Very quickly after the game’s announcement, dataminers investigated Escape Factory. What they discovered only fueled the controversy. A user named Occular Malice revealed that the game primarily uses demo Unity code, which is often used by inexperienced developers. Worse still, most of the assets come from the Unity Store and are available for free. This means that Escape Factory is largely an asset flip, a game built from pre-existing elements without any real innovation.
These revelations quickly spread on forums and social networks, triggering a wave of criticism. To make matters worse, Fntastic was accused of deleting negative comments on Steam and blocking users who criticized the game on social media. This censorship strategy only fueled community anger.
