Barely a month after a release that was unfortunately tantamount to failure, Reflector, the studio behind the game Unknown 9 Awakening, receives some very sad news.
This bad news comes straight from the official website of Reflector Entertainment, to whom we owe the recent Unknown 9 Awakening starring Anya Chalotra (Yennefer in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher). Despite a fascinating basic premise, the title unfortunately failed to convince its audience. As with many other similar cases recently, it is the studio employees who are paying the price.
Sad wake-up call for the studio behind Unknown 9 Awakening
With an average of 59 on review aggregators such as Metacritic and 54% positive reviews on Steam, Unknown 9 Awakening therefore presents itself as a sad flop. The reason for this is, among other things, the unconvincing story and the overall experience, which noticeably lacks polish. Just a month after release, when he ran out of time to right the ship, the ax fell: his Reflector studio was the subject of redundancies.
More precisely, approximately 18% of his payroll went in the doorincluding key positions such as narrative designer and brand manager. On the official website of the studio behind Unknown 9 Awakening we can read the following message: “ We want to refocus our efforts as we enter a new phase of development. These changes are necessary to achieve the most urgent goals. With our latest game and two major production lines on the horizon, we need a team focused on contributing to projects. To this end, we are reducing Reflector's payroll by approximately 18% for positions that are not required for our current projects. ».
The studio behind Unknown 9 Awakening says it wants to help those laid off with compensation and access to medical and professional support. Unfortunately, this is just another example in a long line of titles that have failed and resulted in significant job losses. Unfortunately, even studios that have produced real hits are not immune. We saw this with the firing of people at Insomniac Games, despite the enormous success of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. And this sad story threatens to repeat itself in the more or less near future.
