Total War in science fiction guise: Turn-based strategy and real-time battles come together in Ephemeris. But the project needs your help. Finnish developer Yrdvaab has launched a crowdfunding campaign and is asking for at least 30,000 dollars to put the finishing touches on the game before its early access release in 2025. The stretch goals include, but are not limited to, voice acting, space stations and terraforming. Ephemeris has two major role models: Master of Orion 2 and Homeworld. The parallels to the latter are particularly obvious; The battles don’t look as bombastic as in Homeworld 3, which fans maligned, but they also take place in a real 3D space. This means that spaceships are not limited to two levels as in many real-time strategy games, but can move freely up and down in space. Would you like more structure? The Stellaris competitor Beyond Astra plays promisingly. The second part of Ephemeris is an overview map of the galaxy in which you spread out in the typical 4X way, take possession of star systems, hoard resources and research new technologies. Diplomatic relations with other peoples should also be possible. Everything is turn-based and not in real time like Stellaris; this is where the total war aspect comes into play. Interested?
