After the reception given to Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team is regaining confidence and isn’t afraid to try out their own games. The time for renewal has come.
The developers of Silent Hill 2 Remake absolutely did not expect such a positive wave of criticism. There are several explanations for this, but one of them is that the game caused great concern for fans of the original throughout the promotional period. A cold shower for which the Bloober Team studio blamed Konami without batting an eyelid. And finally the tide actually turned from the previews to the final tests, which proved the developers right.
“No more crappy games” after Silent Hill 2 Remake
In three days, Bloober Team sold more than 1 million copies of Silent Hill 2 Remake. A hit on consoles and PC, with greater success on the PS5 in Europe, which accounts for 78% of units. To live up to the hype surrounding this reimagining of a survival horror masterpiece, the Polish studio quickly announced its next game, Cronos: The New Dawn. A terrible title, still in third person like Silent Hill 2 Remake, where we will play as The Traveler. He is a “mysterious” person who travels through multiple timelines and is equipped with a suit that is highly reminiscent of Dead Space.
So we’ll move between a pandemic-ravaged future in a world full of mutants and communist Poland in the 80s. The teams claim multiple influences such as the Netflix Dark series, but also SH2. For example, the remake allowed Bloober to better understand the combat. But Konami’s title obviously had a shock effect on the developers. After the Silent Hill 2 remake, the studio wants to change everything and put an end to it “Shitty games”.
« We want to be a horror-focused studio. We believe we have found our niche, so we will continue to evolve with it from now on. […] With Layers of Fear, the people in the studio said, “Okay, we’ve made some crappy games, but we can evolve.” ». The real saving grace for Bloober Team will have been Silent Hill 2 Remake for now. But it must be said that everything was already there, or almost, so from now on let’s look at their future productions. More game remakes in the future? The developers are not against it at all.
