The marketing and PR campaign for Agatha All Along wasn’t Marvel Studios’ most successful campaign to date, but we’re happy to admit that the ASMR livestream countdown to its premiere was pretty novel. Wait, what?
Two years ago, this series should have been a big hit, as WandaVision (its TV predecessor) was still fresh and people were hopeful about the future of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, the series has been receiving good reviews, and it seems like fans of the horror part of the MCU might have a lot to enjoy, but for now, most people are just hoping that the series as a whole can regain some attention.

After a poor press conference for star Joe Rock (who is definitely not Billy Maximoff, but certainly “Junior”) and the trailers released so far failing to impress hardcore MCU fans, the unexpected countdown livestream, which had most of the main cast working overtime to do ASMR, actually felt refreshing and entertaining, and might entice undecided people to check out the show. You can watch (or listen) below:
Surprisingly, it was reported that Kathryn Hahn, the lead actress who had a strong performance throughout the series, was not participating. That That’s mostly the case. Instead, Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, and Sasheer Zamata had more time for cards and various trinkets. Plaza was clearly the one having the most fun, and the real perverts would surely appreciate her licking the knife, whispering in their ears, and then piercing some stumps.
This whole thing is the kind of deeply silly but ultimately somewhat catchy production we’d like to see, given the resources Disney and Marvel have and the level of control they have over modern pop culture even in difficult times. You know, if we’re going to see more bad movies, we might as well extract some genuine laughs and memes from them.
Here’s the plot synopsis for Agatha Harkness: “Under enchantment, Agatha Harkness is helped free by a teenager. Curious about his pleas, she embarks on a journey through the witch trials to regain her powers and discover the teen’s motives.” The first two episodes are now available on Disney Plus, a big gamble for Disney in the run-up to Halloween, before the focus shifts to Star Wars: Skull City. Will you be tuning in?
