Gaming News Ahead of Bayonetta 3’s release, PlatinumGames reflects on the utter failure of Babylon’s Fall
This October, PlatinumGames should return with the long-awaited Bayonetta 3. But before this return, the Japanese studio was already present on the video game scene in 2022 with Babylon’s Fall, a service game that completely missed its release. The studio’s CEO returned to this huge failure.
A big let down
Babylon’s fall didn’t appeal to players, and that’s almost an understatement. The PlatinumGames software is undoubtedly the year’s biggest failure on the video game scene. After a disastrous start
Due to lack of demand and therefore players on the servers, PlatinumGames is forced to shorten the suffering of its game. The servers will officially close in early 2023. Far from being defeatist, Atsushi Inaba, CEO of PlatinumGames, touched on his team’s utter failure during an interview with VGC. During the interview, the victim apologizes to the players, but still claims to have learned a lot from this sordid experience.
Atsushi Inaba apologizes
Aware of the harm his teams and he may have caused their fans, Atsushi Inaba first wanted to apologize to them. Still, the CEO acknowledges that this failure cannot be entirely the studio’s responsibility and asks that they contact Square Enix to “understand the reasons or the process that led to the game as it is “.
First of all I would like to point out that we are not able to comment on certain aspects of our games developed with our partners and this is one of the reasons why we don’t really appreciate our current situation which limits us to development games(…) The only thing we can react to is the end of the Babylon’s Fall service, an unfortunate ending that has undoubtedly caused disappointment, even anger, among our dedicated fans and players. We are sincerely sorry for the disappointment we may have caused (…) Giving our creations a very different feeling than joy and fun does not make us proud as developers.
Go ahead and resume gaming service
Despite this statement, the CEO wants to be confident and make the best of this failure. According to the interested party, the studio will continue to focus on service games in the future.
We learned a lot from that experience, and it hasn’t changed our plans or desire to play service games in the future. We really want to keep making service games and continue our efforts to move forward.
Given the catastrophe of Babylon’s fall, it’s hard to be optimistic about a new gaming service from PlatinumGames. Anyhow, we’ll have to wait for news from the studio following the release of Bayonetta 3, scheduled for October 28th on Nintendo Switch.
