Microsoft’s summer Xbox event is just around the corner, and the Steam backend is gearing up for a big Starfield update.

It’s June, which means it’s Christmas for gamers, if your Christmas is basically unwrapping a bunch of ads cut out of newspapers for something you really want, but it’s not actually what you want because it’s not available yet. There’s Summer Game Fest on Friday, the Nintendo Direct is sure to be announced soon, and the latest Xbox showcase is set to take place this Sunday, promising a dedicated demo for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to follow immediately. As spotted by Reddit user JarusinTheStars on the official Starfield subreddit (thanks, TheGamer), the backend of the Bethesda game has seen quite a few updates (via SteamDB), suggesting a major update could be on the horizon.

Something big is happening behind the scenes: the changelog has seen more changes than ever since release.

“There’s no point trying to decipher the changelogs on Steamdb, but from experience one thing is certain: when there are a lot of changes, big things are going to happen,” JarusinTheStars wrote in their Reddit post. “In the past week (and generally since May 1st), there have been more changes than at any time since launch, sometimes over 10 per day. For example, there were about 50-60 changes between the February and March updates. There were about 100 changes between the March and May updates. We’ve almost surpassed that number in less than a month.”

Obviously, it’s unclear what might be coming in such an update, and SteamDB doesn’t exactly run it that way, but given how many changes there are, and the fact that an Xbox demo is coming soon, it’s safe to assume an update is on the way. The RPG’s first expansion, Shattered Space, is also set to launch later this year, so perhaps we’ll get a sneak peek at that, too.
