GTA San Andreas was one of the most popular games of its time and therefore has a large fan base. Unfortunately, the game’s remaster has disappointed many players, not only because of technical problems, but also because of the graphics. The characters mostly still look quite undetailed or even deformed, which is why it is difficult to imagine what they might look like in real life. Redditor AaronGNP probably asked himself this question and the image generator AI Stable Diffusion gave him the answer.
The results are extremely realistic
The images shown here are not real photos and not real people. They were all generated by an AI using AaronGNP’s prompts. The results are extremely realistic and impressive.
To generate the images, the AI artist used original images of the characters from the GTA San Andreas fandom wiki and fed them to the AI. The following prompts were then used:
- a black man with short hair
- high res
- shallow depth of field
- sharp focus
- elegant pose
- realistic portrait
- and much more
Image generators like this are very controversial in the artist community. For example, an AI-generated image won an art competition last year, which pissed off many artists. You can read more about it here:
On Reddit AaronGNP shares the exact flow he used to generate the main character, CJ. So you can try your luck with Stable Diffusion yourself. Pay attention to the rather high system requirements for the program. You need at least 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and an Nvidia RTX graphics card. While GPUs from other manufacturers may work, they are not natively supported, which could cause problems.
We ourselves have had realistic images of games created with the AI image generator Midjourney and incorporated them into a small guessing game. If you want to guess which games are hidden behind the generated images, then have a look here:

What do you think of the AI-generated GTA San Andreas characters? And is there a specific game that you would like to have photorealistic images generated from? And since the term has already been used in this article: What is your attitude towards »AI artists«? Can you call AaronGNP an artist or not? Tell us what you think about it in the comments!
