Thanks to someone on the internet, Hideo Kojima’s next game may have been leaked.
In a video posted online (thanks to ResetEra), a guy who apparently doesn’t care (at least we hope only half of them) uses their phone to shoot what looks like another phone is playing excessHideo Kojima’s rumored horror game.
It’s a weird way to leak something, but it’s what it is, so we’ll just go with the flow.
The video, which was posted on Streamable before it was deleted, shows a character that looks a lot like Margaret Cooley, who played mom in Death Stranding. In the footage shown, the character is using a flashlight to walk through the facility to look around, and at one point appears to be chased by something off-camera. As noted by Exputer, the video shows a red dot, leading some to believe it could be a mobile or touchscreen game, or one that uses on-screen cues.
The video ends with the character screaming before the words Game Over, then A Hideo Kojima game, and then the title Overdose.
As PC Gamer says, the leaked footage could be a gameplay demo, a first trailer, or even a promotional video. It could also be fake, even though it looks legit. However, people are getting better at fakes, so we can’t say if it’s real or fake. Only our shirtless friends and the original source of the leak know for sure.
Kojima has been making fun of us lately, and we think this is his next project. In October, Kojima’s studio began teasing its next game with an image of Elle Fanning (The Great) emblazoned with “Who Am I”. It was followed by an image of Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2) with “Where Am I” emblazoned.
The images were tweeted by Kojima, who was retweeted by a producer at Kojima Productions with the hashtags #DeathStranding and #WhereAmI. Of course, the producer’s tweet was deleted, and it’s also likely that they annoyed everyone by using the Death Stranding hashtag.
If Overdose is indeed Kojima and co.’s next game, and the team is ready to talk about it, we’ll probably be ridiculed during the 2022 Game Awards in December.
In addition to the purported horror game, Death Stranding 2 is also reportedly in development, codenamed Ocean. Its existence was “confirmed” twice by actor Norman Reedus. The studio has another game in the works for the Xbox, but it’s clearly a long way off.
