It is certainly not a new idea to expand the living space of mankind. The sea, hitherto sparsely populated by humans, seems an obvious possibility for more housing, although many problems arise.
That Italian design studio Lazzarini has now presented a concept for a “Terayacht” that should look like a turtle. The name of the giant should pangeans
are based on the supercontinent Pangea, which until 150 million years ago included all the land masses of the earth at that time.
The term Cruise ship
is almost an understatement with these huge dimensions, it is more like a floating city. But even if it is only a concept at first, the pictures of Pangeos can cause amazement. The same applies to the huge building that Saudi Arabia is planning. You can find out more about this in this article:

As the name Pangeos and the designation »Terayacht« already suggest, this is no modest project. There should be no less than 60,000 people on Pangeos.
With a length of 550 meters and a width of 610 meters it would largest cruise ship to date – the »Wonders Of The Sea« – by far. It is “only” 362 meters long and 66 meters wide and can accommodate almost 7,000 people. Looking at the people housed, the Pangeos would be almost nine times larger.
At least when you look at the size and the amount of buildings and living space, it becomes clear why the designers from Lazzarini themselves are at the official website use the concept of the floating city mentioned above.

19 private villas and 69 apartments are designed on each of the two front fins of the turtle alone. There will also be 72 public terraces, shopping malls, restaurants, a small harbor and much more.
With a new solution, the developers promise a high level of safety at sea. In the belly of the ship, 30,000 cells made of steel are supposed to ensure that it is unsinkable. The giant is to be powered by electric motors, each with 16,800 horsepower. So Pangeos would move nine kilometers an hour.

If the project goes ahead, Lazzarini said it would cost $8 billion and take about eight years to complete. However, this would require a special dam.

Similar concepts
The designers and developers do not tell us whether the Pangeos is really intended to permanently accommodate 60,000 people or only serve as a cruise ship. However, there are projects that are clearly aimed at finding longer-term solutions for life on the water.
Above all, nations that are already threatened by rising sea levels are working on ideas or have already implemented some, including the Netherlands. There is already one there floating office building and one floating recycling park. Also the »Maledives Floating City« was designed by the Dutch architecture firm Waterstudio designed.
