Anyone who sees Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) for the first time will first notice the steel muscles of the ex-military police officer. But there is much more than mere physical strength behind the facade.
Because before Racher's opponent even know what they are doing, the giant has long since outwitted and put them on the cross. The Creator got the inspiration for this in one Well -known detective with massive heads.
You Sherlock!
We already know how Reach got his name. But where did the author Lee Child come from the inspiration for his character?
The answer is: from Folder Detective Sherlock Holmes. And according to Child, there is already an obvious homage in the first book in the series (via Men’s Journal).
In Killing Floor [Band 1] I installed an explicit Sherlock-Holmes cover in which the Reacher to Finley, the police officer, says: “I see that they are divorced and gave up smoking in April.” That was REACHER, who concluded like Holmes.
By the way, this scene from the book has it also made in season 1 of the Amazon seriesthat is based on the novel. Here you can see the funny exchange of blows between Finley (Malcolm Goodwin) and Reacher (Alan Ritchson):

If you are still wondering now: But what do Reacher and Holmes have in common now? Lee Child gives you a specific answer.
It was always about the balance between heads and muscles. Holmes could strike. Reach can do that too. But both win when they [gedanklich] are three steps ahead.

REACHER: In the trailer for season 3, a colossus appears that even protrudes the ex-military policeman
Danger! The following section contains Spoiler for the final of REACHER: Season 3.
The final of the third season relies on an epic duel between Reacher and the bodyguard Paulie (Olivier Richters). The highlight of this fight takes place on the dangerous cliffs on the edge of the property and both plunge into the sea a little later.
This scene is reminiscent of the legendary argument Between Sherlock Holmes and his opponent Professor Moriarty In the last volume of the series “The Memoirs of the Sherlock Holmes.” Because in “The last problem” the two ultimately end up in the Reichenbachfalls in Switzerland and threaten to drown.
The author has this parallel not explicitly confirmedbut it would be quite possible that Holmes also inspired this adventurous experience.
If you want to look at the struggle of the giants in full length: You can find all the relays of Reacher published so far in the subscription to Amazon Prime Video. You can look at the show of strength including a small swimming unit in the eighth episode of the third season.
By the way, Reach is growing, because his best friend Neagley (Maria Sten) soon investigates as a private detective in her own spin-off. Due to the production of the new show, the upcoming season 4 of the original series could appear a little later than expected. You can find out why this is so in the article linked above.
