A live-action Masters of the Universe film has been in the works for nearly two decades, but with Barbie’s success on Warner Bros. Discovery Channel and Amazon MGM Studios now joining forces with Mattel, the project seems to be finally moving forward. Now, Alison Brie will play the main villain Evil-Lyn.
The Hollywood Reporter shared the news, noting that production on the series could begin soon. Back in May, What You Think of star Nicholas Galitzine was offered the title role of Adam/He-Man.

Netflix had been working on a previous version of the project for quite some time, with the Nee brothers (The Lost City) directing and Kyle Allen (West Side Story) announced to play Adam/He-Man. The project moved to Amazon, and after a complete reboot, Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and his regular writing partner Chris Butler (Kubo and the Two Strings) took over directing and writing duties. Given the source material, this is the kind of creative talent you want, but whether they will be allowed to cook it properly remains to be seen.
Evil-Lynn is Skeletor’s second-in-command, skilled in the use of dark magic. Meg Foster played the character in the 1987 live-action film, and Brie would definitely bring a different energy to the role. That being said, after starring in Community and Mad Men, she’s started to land more unexpected roles, like her standout lead performance in Netflix’s WWE. Lately, she’s been trying to balance comedic roles with more dramatic ones, and it seems to be working well for her. Now, a return to the mainstream (after multiple voice roles in animated series like Star Wars: Vision and Rick and Morty) seems like a logical step.
Currently, the official plot synopsis reads: “Masters of the Universe introduces 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crash-lands on Earth in a spaceship and becomes separated from his magical sword of power – his only connection to his homeland of Eternia…After nearly two decades of tracking…Prince Adam is sent back into space to defend his homeland from the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam must first uncover the secrets of his past and become He-Man: The Most Powerful Man in the Universe!”
Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026… unless the curse is still in effect.
