Amazon announced the postponement of the upcoming online role-playing game New World on April 9. The release no longer takes place on May 26, but instead now on August 25, 2020. New World will appear three months later than previously announced.
Game Director Scot Lane gives the reason current corona pandemic and the associated changing working conditions for Amazon Game Studios. The team, like most people today, has extensive contact restrictions and works from home.
As a result, the original schedules cannot be met, as Lane explains in detail in a current video for the new release date:
What should the shift bring? New World should appear in the best possible condition. Given Lane's difficult circumstances, developers can only make sure of this by taking more time, according to Scot Lane. However, the safety and health of employees is paramount.

What about the alpha and beta?
The Alpha continues as usual: This allows players who already have access to New World to continue playing as usual. In addition, the developers want to carry out "further iterations of the gaming experience" in order to involve the alpha testers in the ongoing progress of New World.
The beta starts in July: As the developers continue to explain in the blog post for the new release date, the beta is also logically shifting backwards. As of July 2020, players will be able to play the feature-complete version of the game in the closed beta of New World.
