We already knew that Amazon Games and Maverick Games were working together on a AAA racing game. However, thanks to a newly posted job posting for a community manager, we also know that Amazon appears to be preparing to manage the community the game is hoping to grow.

According to a job posting on Gamesjobs.co, Amazon is looking for someone with experience in the community management field. This means “building, executing, and scaling cross-functional programs or marketing campaigns from concept to completion,” managing and measuring marketing performance, and using data to measure metrics. From start to finish, this is pretty standard work for a video game community management role.

Hiring for this type of position usually happens when developers are doing marketing and PR for their games. You need community management to draft a game plan, identify a target audience, and prepare to engage with that audience. Amazon doing this now is likely a sign that the company will have all of this ready in the coming months, which is good news for those who have been eagerly awaiting Amazon’s latest plans for gaming.

Amazon Games and Maverick Games both needed a win. Maverick won for obvious reasons – it’s a new studio founded by industry developers familiar with the racing space, thanks to the connection to the Forza IP. For its first game, there were obviously high hopes that the game could make an impact, given the prestige of the people involved in its production. For Amazon, things are a little more complicated. While the company has had some hit games, like Lost Ark and New World, it has also suffered losses.

Those who have been playing for a while may remember Crucible, a game that Amazon announced before Concord but later canceled. Recently, it was revealed that one of Amazon’s big MMOs in the works, Blue Protocol, had a less-than-expected launch in Japan, leading to its abrupt cancellation in the West. Add to that the fact that Maverick Games’ racing game is Amazon’s first foray into non-MMO gaming in a while, and you’d expect a lot.

So this is definitely a match to watch. For those sitting in the passenger seat, this match is a big deal. In the meantime, if you fit the above criteria and are looking for a job, why not apply for this! While we all check Twitter for updates, you can see them inside the company.
