Amazon Games is bringing another Korean MMORPG to the West (and Japan). This time it’s Thrones and Freedom, a flashy-looking third-person action MMO that’s gotten a lot of hype over the years from eager non-Korean gamers.
The game proudly has its own storyline, universe, and combat system, and should be coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X/S in the future. As of now, however, there’s no release date other than the usual 2023 window.
“NCSOFT has created some of the world’s most popular and longest-running online games, so it’s no surprise that Thrones and Freedom is the most anticipated MMO today,” Christoph Hartmann, vice president of gaming at Amazon, wrote in an official press release. Strange.”
“Publishing games that exist and evolve over time remains an important part of our strategy, and delivering the highest quality games from the world’s most talented developers is one of the cornerstones of our business. Last year has taught us With a lot of knowledge about launching and managing successful live service games around the world, we are poised to bring an incredible experience to Thrones and Freelance players at launch.”
NCSoft is a great source of MMOs in Korea, with previously released titles like Blade & Soul, Guild Wars, and Lineage that are popular with both Korean and Western crowds. Amazon Games seems to want to keep up the success of the Lost Ark launch. If you remember the game’s massive success when it was released in the West, it’s clear why other Korean developers are keen on similar treatment.
It’s not all about Amazon’s game, either. Don’t forget that Blue Protocol, another MMORPG from Bandai Namco this time, will land soon. For those who aren’t fans of the genre, there are even some non-MMO titles to choose from, like the new Tomb Raider, and an original action game IP from Disruptive Games that’s in development.
All in all, while Amazon Games’ history isn’t perfect, there’s still plenty of exciting things afoot. It remains to be seen whether Throne and LIberty can replicate the hype that came with Lost Ark’s release. You have to remember that at the time World of Warcraft was losing players and the MMO scene was desperate for any new quality MMO offerings. Now, with World of Warcraft doing so much better, how many people will make the leap?
Let us know what you think below! Do you think Throne and Freedom will be successful in the West? Do you like the graphics of the game?
