Maybe you know Road House dank Family Guyor because you actually saw the rather absurd action film from 1989. In it, Patrick Swayze plays a bouncer with a philosophy degree who dishes out spinning kicks and rips out the occasional larynx. No joke.
Now – almost 34 years later – Amazon is re-issuing the chatty but still quite cult action film. (By the way, a quick look shows how widely opinions differ regarding Road House Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic).
This is how muscular the new Road House will be
The new Road House starts on March 21, 2024 on Prime Video and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko) follows in Patrick Swayze’s footsteps. There is no official trailer yet, but there is a first picture of Gyllenhaal, who has really pumped himself up for the bouncer philosopher:
The original Road House wasn’t a hit with critics (obviously), but it did become a cult film. This is primarily because Patrick Swayze’s unmistakable charisma thanks, but also to the really impressive martial arts fight scenes.
What else you should know about Road House
For the new edition of Amazon Director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) – by the way, Joel Silver, the producer of the 1989 Road House, is also on board.
Road House gets the same as the original a hard R rating, which allows for the explicit depiction of violence or sexual content. Since the original doesn’t skimp on this, this should make fans of the trashy action film optimistic.
If you’re nostalgic now or want to satisfy your curiosity for good old trash cinema, you’ll find the trailer for the original:

The cast also includes Jake Gyllenhaal Daniela Melchior (Fast X), Billy Magnussen (James Bond: No Time to Die) and MMA fighter Conor McGregor. The appropriate final word: Road House
