American Nightmare (The Purge)

This is one of the legends that has established itself in recent years. The universe ofAmerican nightmare, or The Purge in English, describes an alternate world where the US government allows almost all crimes for 12 hours each year. This event is called a purge. The goal ? Reduce crime by allowing everyone to express themselves freely for a night. Originally written and performed by American James DeMonaco, the franchise is then entrusted to other filmmakers. For the fourth etc fifth installment, the origin of everything was only in the scenario. It will return to the Furnace and Mill sixth movie. Another notable creative behind the project, Jason Blum, founder and CEO of horror film production company Blumhouse, and Michael Bay, famed director of Transformers and Pearl Harbor, are producing the various feature films.

Story wise, the first film is a behind-the-scenes, Home Invasion-style film. Like Panic Room, it presents the adventures of a family whose home is taken by storm. Unlike David Fincher’s film, American Nightmare adds the Purge principle. Confined to a single house in the early films, the sequels offer a much larger universe and feature purges in major North American cities. There more or less independent stories are told, even if we find recurring characters, always in this alternate universe. To further explore the concept, a series consisting of two seasons and called The Purge also saw the light of day between 2018 and 2019.

It (2017)

Stephen King’s cult work was entitled to recent adaptations. From the universe of the best adapted author in the history of cinema, dem two “It” feature films from Andres Musketti are available on Prime Video. In October 1988, 12-year-old Bill Denbrough built a paper sailboat for Georgie, his two-year younger brother. Georgie is sailing the boat through the rainy streets of the small town of Derry when it gets caught in the sewers. As he tries to get it back, Georgie sees a clown through the water drain. The latter, introducing himself as Pennywise, encourages Georgie to approach, then rips off his arm and drags him into the sewers. The rest of the film tells the story of Bill and his group of friends a few months later.

The two reappropriations of Pennywise stories came out almost 30 years after the original TV movies. Enough to traumatize a whole new generation… And the expected result seems to have been fully achieved. With more than $700 million in worldwide box office receipts, the remake’s first installment rose to become the 10th-biggest-grossing film of 2017. That year, the film even surpassed works like Dunkirk, logan or Kong: Skull Island. A deal that’s all the more profitable when you consider that the film cost “only” $35 million. It even became the most successful horror film in cinema history.
