A whole handful of new smart speakers from Amazon are scheduled to appear in 2022. The shipping giant presented several new Echo devices at its hardware event. They range from the hi-fi speaker Echo Studio to the small Echo Auto for on the go.
What’s new in the various models and when you can expect the new Echo speakers, you can find out from us below.
Three new Echo Dots
With the popular Echo Dot, Amazon is not just limiting itself to a new device. Instead, two different 5th generation smart speakers and an update for the Echo Dot Kids, which is specially tailored to children, are planned.
The adult model will appear as both a classic Echo Dot and an Echo Dot with a clock. Dre differs in that it has a display consisting of several LEDs, which, in addition to the time, also shows titles of songs that have been played, timers or upcoming appointments from the calendar.
Amazon also wants to optimize the sound of the Dot devices: Better bass and less distortion. In addition, the new dots should be more intuitive to use. Because in addition to the usual controls, the balls can now also be controlled with a light press on the device – as is already the case with the Home Mini.
To make this possible, an acceleration sensor is installed in the new models. There is another sensor for measuring the temperature on top of it.
The Echo Dot Kids lineup expands with two new variants modeled after a dragon and an owl.
The regular Echo Dot of the 5th generation appears at a starting price of 59.99 dollars, the version with a clock and the two kids models will cost 69.99 dollars. All models will be released in October and can be pre-ordered now.
In addition to Amazon, Google also has new products in the works. You can find out in the article what we can expect at the pixel event next week and why it should also be of interest to smart home fans.

Amazon Echo Studio gets spatial audio
The Amazon Echo Studio hi-fi speaker is also getting an update. This should appear in the coming month and will cost 199.99 dollars at the start.
With the Echo Studio, Amazon wants to make another big leap forward, especially in terms of sound. In return, the new smart display receives spatial audio, i.e. spatial sound, as well as clearer mids and better bass. Older models should also receive the audio updates via software updates in the coming months.
Also new is the white color of the Echo Studio, which customers can now choose from when purchasing.
A new echo comes into the car
The smallest Echo speaker is a new version of the Echo Auto and already reveals that it is not intended for the apartment. The model should also enable voice operation in your own car while on the move, making it possible to send messages or play music.
The new Echo Auto will be available at launch for $54.99.
All new echoes support Matter
During the event, Amazon naturally also discussed the launch of Matter. The first devices are to be supported as early as 2022, while a broad rollout to other devices is then to take place in 2023.
All newly introduced Echo speakers should be compatible with Matter later this year. We have summarized everything you need to know about Matter to get started in the linked article.
