AMD is showing Ryzen 7000 in action for the first time at CES 2022

Action, AMD, CES, Ryzen, showing, time

AMD has ushered in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 with its keynote. In the focus of the presentation by company boss Dr. Lisa Su had notebooks and matching APUs. In addition, the Radeon RX 6500 XT rounds off the RDNA2 portfolio with a seemingly inexpensive entry-level model.

Perhaps most interesting for desktop gamers: In spring 2022, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be a revised version of the popular eight-core with so-called m 3D V-Cache, the Intel’s current flagship Core i9 12900K in terms of gaming performance should again put it in its place.

Intel strikes back, but AMD can stay cool

Dr. Lisa Su not only held an early test sample of the upcoming Ryzen generation from the 7000 series in the camera, but also showed the processor based on the Zen 4 architecture in action. Apparently, after several attempts, AMD manages to crack the 5 GHz mark, which is effective for advertising.

Radeon RX 6500 XT

AMD compares the RX 6500 XT with the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 and the AMD Radeon RX 570. The newcomer is said to be clearly superior to both cards when it comes to gaming in Full HD resolution, as the following picture shows:

The specifications of the RX 6500 XT:

  • Chip: Navi 24
  • Calculation cores: 1.024
  • Clock rate: 2,610 / 2,815 MHz game / boost frequency
  • Storage: 4,0 GByte GDDR6 (18,0 Gbps)
  • Infinity Cache: 16,0 MByte
  • TBP: 107 Watt

When will the RX 6500 XT be released? The new entry-level model from the RX-6000 series is due to appear on January 19 and will be available for 199 US dollars. AMD did not mention the euro prices, but in view of the difficult situation on the graphics card market, this is superfluous, because at the RRP we will probably not even get to see the card. We reckon with 350 to 400 dollars.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D

AMD had already shown a prototype of the Ryzen 9 5900X with the new 3D V-Cache in mid-2022 and promised a noticeable increase in performance. Now it has become the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for the time being, which – as already mentioned – should dethrone Intel’s current flagship Core i9 12900K in terms of Full HD performance, as the following picture shows:

The specifications of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X:

Ryzen 7 5800X3D Kerne/Threads: 8/16 Rate: 3,4/4,5 GHz L3-Cache: 96,0 MByte (64,0 MByte 3D V-Cache, 32,0 MByte 2D Cache) TDP: 105 Watt
Ryzen 7 5800X Kerne/Threads: 8/16 Rate: 3,8/4,7 GHz L3-Cache: 32,0 MByte 2D Cache TDP: 105 Watt

What is 3D V-Cache? 3D V-Cache is a stacked last-level or L3 cache. The vertical arrangement not only realizes more cache memory, but also a higher density of connections compared to 2D cache.

Ryzen 7000

Last but not least, AMD boss Dr. Lisa Su also held a prototype from the Ryzen 7000 series in the camera. The CPU based on the Zen 4 architecture is manufactured by the contract manufacturer TSMC in a 5 nanometer and at the same time heralds a new platform with AM5.

In a briefly shown scene from the recently released shooter Halo: Infinite, the Zen-4 chip is said to have already been seen in action. Concrete performance metrics could not be taken from the video material, Dr. Lisa Su said, however, that the CPU should have been on all cores with 5 GHz.

When will Ryzen 7000 be released? According to AMD, the release of the new processor generation should take place in the second half of 2022.
