The appearance of Navi GPU chips that power both PS5 and Xbox Series X has leaked.
According to data originally provided on Github, a member of the AMD test team posted test results for unreleased GPUs, which may be related to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The information features 3DMark results and hints at the potential capabilities of each GPU in two upcoming consoles. Digital Foundry independently verified that the data hasn't actually changed, which means this is the first time we (although informally) have studied the two GPUs that power the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
According to the leak, the PS5's GPU (codenamed Oberon) uses 36 computing units and runs at 2.0 GHz. This will create a 9.2 teraflop GPU, which AMD internally refers to as "Navi 10 Lite".
On the other hand, the Xbox Series X GPU, code-named Arden, aims for a more powerful 12 teraflops target. Compared with the PS5, the available data does not give us much knowledge about the Series X GPU, but it does confirm 56 computing units, although not the clock speed.
Digital Foundry suspects that the target is 12 teraflops, which will bring the clock speed to 1.7 GHz and is in line with other reports late last year.
This site is based on the number of GPU shaders (3584 shaders), which represents a target of at least 12 teraflops. It is unlikely that fewer shaders are needed to lower the TF target.
These details obviously haven't been formally confirmed yet, but the PS5 leak reveals how built-in backward compatibility is supported in the GPU. The data shows tests from three chip modes: Gen0, Gen1, and Gen2. The idea is to duplicate the basic PS4 and PS4 Pro features in Gen0 and Gen1, while the fully unlocked Gen2 can handle native PS5 games.
In fact, based on the results, the GPU reduced its speed and deactivated some computing units to match the two current computing units in the PS4 console.
It is meaningless to speculate on prices at this stage, but a complete report is worth your expectations. From what we understand, the goal of the Series X may be beyond the price range that usually runs in a console.
It is rumored that the Xbox is cheap and the less powerful Lockhart has not appeared in this leak, but its existence is more meaningful now.
