DC Comics has announced the launch of a new 12-issue comic book series called Batman and Robin: Year One, created by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, a duo just as popular as Bruce and Dick. The first issue is coming out very soon. The first images are very heavy. It’s very beautiful with a retro aesthetic that looks great.
Batman and Robin return
Batman and Robin: Year One focuses on the early adventures of Bruce Wayne and his new partner Dick Grayson. While Bruce adjusts to his new role as guardian of the orphaned Dick, a new crime boss nicknamed the General appears in Gotham. The latter seeks to take control of the city by disrupting the other gangs. A mysterious connection to Two-Face further complicates matters.
Although Batman and Robin are the stars of this story, according to Mark Waid, the real meat of the story is the relationship between Bruce and Dick. The story takes place a few months after Bruce adopts Dick. During this time, Bruce realizes that he is ill-prepared to become a father. Without a parental role model, Bruce must navigate this new dynamic. With Alfred by his side, but also without experience in raising a child of this age.
Chris Samnee describes Dick Grayson as everything Bruce Wayne is not: brash, flamboyant and ruthless. But also precise and able to follow orders when they make sense to him. Dick tests his limits within the dynamic duo, trying to find his place while also bringing new energy to Gotham’s nightly patrols.
Batman and Robin: Year One is a highly anticipated series that offers a new perspective on the duo’s debut. Mark your calendars for October 16th. Check out some delicious images below.
