Long reserved for video game professionals, the press or the most motivated gamers, taking screenshots of games with the PS4-Xbox One generation has become more democratic. On Nintendo consoles it is possible to take screenshots of the 3DS. However, catching the latter was not particularly easy. The process has been simplified on Switch. But it’s not fully optimized yet. A developer wanted to make life easier for fans of screenshots and other gameplay videos.
One developer had fun creating a free application that speeds up the transfer of footage and videos captured on a Nintendo Switch. This application called SwitchBuddy is now available on devices iOS
Without SwitchBuddy, players have several options for transferring the recordings they have made to their Switch. The easiest thing to do is to insert the switch’s SD card into a computer. Once the memory card is in the latter, all you have to do is transfer the pictures and videos.
Nintendo Switch screenshots, quite a story
To transfer screenshots and videos to a smartphone, the process is less straightforward. You need to first select the screenshots or video to be sent on the switch. You then need to connect the smartphone to the console by scanning the QR code displayed by the switch. In order to view the screenshots or the video on the mobile device, you must then scan this QR code again. After this step, all the player has to do is save the screenshots on their smartphone.
The SwitchBuddy app allows you to remove several steps from this tedious process. After selecting the recordings or video on the Switch, you only need to scan the QR code once from SwitchBuddy. The selected media then appear directly in the app.
It’s free, but you are not the product
The user can then choose to save or share the photos (all at once) or the video on their smartphone (send to friends, transfer to other applications, etc.). Under iOS, the player also has the option of saving its recordings directly in the iCloud. If you make this second choice, a SwitchBuddy folder will be created in iCloud directly.
As mentioned above, the SwitchBuddy app is free. However, people who financially support its creator have a wider choice of surface colors. However, the SwitchBuddy developer insists that the functionality of their application remains free.
