Now that the calendar has turned to 2024, the earliest version of Mickey Mouse has entered the public domain. Naturally, this resulted in it being incorporated into indie horror titles faster than you could say the phrase “predictable jump scares.”
Yes, poor Steamboat Willie, who you may remember from a 1928 animated short named after him, has now made his way from the loving arms of Walt Disney into the arms of the masses. Just like last year’s Winnie the Pooh, the scare-seeking parts of society can’t wait to transform young Mickey into something that will no doubt fill the panties of streamers around the world on a regular basis once it’s released.

Meet Infestation 88, a “co-op horror game” [game] In the game, you are an exterminator, curing evil infections caused by twisted versions of classic characters and urban legends. ” Here’s the first trailer released yesterday, accompanying developer Nightmare Forge Games.
Once the creepy public domain disclaimer wears off, the big thing you’ll notice is a bunch of frightened willies jumping out and making disturbing noises at some unfortunate guy in a biohazard suit. These unfortunate souls are the exterminators that you and your companions can play as, and as you might expect, it revolves around dealing with the “mysterious infection” of 1988.
Think something like Lethal Company, but with one or two familiar characters instead of giant creatures and Flubber-style ooze that can’t quite eat you.
If that sounds like a good idea, you’ll have to wait a while, as Infestation 88 will hit Early Access via Steam sometime in 2024. According to Nightmare Forge Games, which is “an industry team of veterans who have been making horror games exclusively since 2010,” this EA period will likely last between six and 12 months.
“game [currently] There is a fully playable loop where up to four players take on the role of exterminators, using tools to quell infestations across multiple locations,” the developer explains, adding: “The game is feature-rich but will benefit from community feedback So we can improve the existing range and plan new features that players will want to experience. “
