After a relatively unusual leak, major information about the new Death Stranding project has been officially released. Very promising news that should reassure fans.
Hideo Kojima left Konami without the MGS saga that ended with Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain, but bounced back soon after. The Japanese creator refounded Kojima Productions and was finally able to work on a brand new license, Death Stranding. A radical and refreshing experience that is gradually developing into a franchise. DS2 is being developed exclusively for PS5, but a cinematic adaptation has also been in the works for a few months.
Great news for the Death Stranding movie
After the success of Death Stranding on PS4, PC and PS5 with the director’s cut version, Hideo Kojima announced DS2 for 2022 along with a live-action film. A project with Hammerstone Studios, used to producing and financing more independent feature films that would not find favor in the eyes of Hollywood’s biggest companies. And yet, while Kojima-san was courted by these big fish, he preferred a structure that suited his vision of adaptation.
The Death Stranding film will have a more indie and arthouse approach, as opposed to action blockbusters and their countless explosions. “There have been many suggestions to make a big movie with famous actors and flashy explosions, but what purpose would explosions serve in Death Stranding? » said the developer. An understandable choice given the experience the game offers.
Today, this more intimate vision is further confirmed with the announcement of a partnership between Kojima Productions and A24. The independent company to which we owe Midsommar, La Main (Talk to Me), Euphoria Season 2, The Curse with Emma Stone, The Whale, Men and the huge hit Everything Everywhere All At Once. A little earlier today, information about a goodie, a 24 X DS t-shirt, was leaked, but now it’s safe. “It’s official: we’ve teamed up with Kojima Productions for the live-action film adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game Death Stranding.”
