Fable 4 is indirectly being talked about again, while one of the big upcoming Xbox cartridges is undergoing a significant change that bodes well for this highly anticipated sequel.
According to the latest news, Fable 4 is set to launch in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series, and Xbox Game Pass. This sequel to the flagship RPG franchise is being developed by PlayGround Games. But the studio seems to need extra hands to offer a game that matches its enormous ambitions.
The story of Fable 4 needs more hands to be written
After a rather disappointing third work by an exhausted team led by the eccentric Peter Molyneux, Xbox took back the reins of the license and handed the development of Fable 4 over to PlayGround Games (Forza Horizon). From what we saw at the last Xbox Games Showcase, this new work certainly promises to be visually magical. But the scope of the task entrusted to the studio seems to be greater than expected and it is receiving additional help.
The development of Fable 4 will therefore be carried out jointly with Third Kind Games. In a way, this is reminiscent of the situation surrounding Perfect Dark, which was jointly developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. As a reminder, Third Kind Games is a studio that has notably worked on Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 4 for Xbox Game Studios or even Hearthstone for Blizzard.
Note that Third Kind Games was notably involved in the port of Sea of Thieves to PS5. Does this mean that it will be assigned the same task for Fable 4, meaning that it will not end up being an Xbox Series console exclusive as expected? The game published by Microsoft would then follow the same path as other major titles such as DOOM The Dark Ages or Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle. However, to be sure, we will have to wait to find out more through an official announcement.
