The Simpsons is full of bizarre jokes, with the occasional one about video games, like when Millhouse plays Waterworld. Now you can play!
If you haven’t seen it, Waterworld, starring Kevin Costner, is a post-apocalyptic world 2,500 years away, where water levels have risen so high that every continent is submerged under water. In an episode of The Simpsons titled “The Springfield Files,” Millhouse played an arcade game adapted from the movie and had to pay 40 cents, the usual amount to play an arcade game. Now indie developer Macaw45 has made it really playable because it was just a little joke in the original episode.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the occasional fake video games in The Simpsons, and as a kid, the Waterworld games always impressed me,” Macaw45 explained in the description on the game’s page. “Of course it was just a quick joke about how expensive movies were to make at the time, but the fake game itself, with its huge Kevin Costner character on screen, took me a step before the machine asked for more seasons So eager to know “what else but that screen you see on the show”.
As mentioned in the description, Macaw45 has indeed built a more fleshed-out Waterworld game for all to enjoy by adding some of its own interpretation further than originally shown.
Interestingly, this isn’t actually the first waterworld video game to exist. In fact, if you believe it, four Waterworld games were made, one for the SNES, one for the Game Boy, one for the PC, and the future technology, the Virtual Boy, each one different from the other, so if You plan a water world themed evening and there are many options.
