On the Xbox console side, Microsoft sells a large number of different colored controllers. The Xbox Series X | S has already amassed an impressive collection of controllers in a year. On the PlayStation side, the finding is significantly different. Only three colors of DualSense are officially available on PS5. Unless you have the right contacts …
An official blue PS5 DualSense controller was recently spotted on Twitter. This controller was actually part of a gift from Team Asobi to Shuhei Yoshida. And he revealed this precious controller by posting a photo on his personal Twitter account.
DualSense does not bleed for resale
In this photo you can therefore see a blue DualSense controller, which has been adapted in the colors of Team Asobi. A dedication on the latter “to a special bot“has also been engraved. This controller is of course not available in stores. It does give an idea of what an official blue DualSense might look like, however.
Note that the package sent from Sony’s Japanese studio contained other goodies besides this precious blue controller. Including a card signed by the studio team. For your information, Team Asobi was previously one of the Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan studio teams. Last April this studio officially disappeared and Team Asobi became their own studio.
Between Team Asobi and Shuhei Yoshida, it’s a story that endures
Led by Nicolas Doucet, Team Asobi is behind titles like the excellent Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom. He was also involved in the design of the PlayStation VR and the DualSense controller. When Shuhei Yoshida was President of Sony Worldwide Studios, he obviously worked closely with Nicolas Doucet and his team. Which obviously created strong connections.
After organizational changes within SIE and the takeover by Jim Ryan at the end of 2019, Shuhei Yoshida left the management of Worldwide Studios. Whoever is one of PlayStation’s historical figures is now taking care of relationships with outside independent studios.
So, to come back to the first topic, it’s an in-house gift from Sony. However, one might wonder if a significant public reaction to this photo could lead the manufacturer to launch a similar PS5 controller. Only the future will tell. Currently, the DualSense PS5s are only available in white, black or red.
What do you think of this blue DualSense controller? Would you be tempted for Sony to officially market it? What color of the PS5 controller would you like the most? Tell us all about it in the comments below.
