An industry analyst believes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has the potential to stay on the bestseller list for “many years.”
Not every game on the top-grossing list stays that way forever. Some games have their moments to shine, but not enough to give them real longevity. That’s why you’ll still find games like Mario Kart 8 and Grand Theft Auto V still selling hot — games you can easily come back to and play. Now, industry analyst Mat Piscatella has shared his thoughts on how long The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdoms can stay on the bestseller charts, and he thinks it could be years (thanks GamesRadar).
Citing a tweet from review aggregator OpenCritic, which gave The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdoms a 97/100 based on 65 critic reviews, Piscatella said, “Sometimes I wonder if a game can beat the Top 20 lasts a few months – seller chart. In this case, I wonder how many years it will last.” Considering how much content is in the game, it’s sure to be something players can easily return to.
It’s worth noting that at the time of writing, Tears of Kingdoms is currently the highest-rated game on OpenCritic, as the site itself indicated in the tweet referenced by Piscatella. Obviously, that’s what attracts players, so there’s no reason to doubt Piscatella’s ideas.
It’s also a good thing for Nintendo, as game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi shared that he’s already thinking about his next game, even though Tears of Kingdoms is only just out. Let’s hope that whatever he does eventually lets us play as Zelda in some form, because that’s her name on the box after all.
