Homeland may be a scary version of Superman, but the characters in The Boys have a deep love for milk, which is explained well by Antony Starr.

Milk fetish: Some people have this fetish. The reality of life is that everything is someone’s thing, and in the world of The Boys, Homelander, the world’s most powerful superhero, happens to have this fetish. When Homelander isn’t brutally killing people, this fetish makes him easier to laugh at and brings a little levity to an occasionally heavy show. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Starr, the actor who plays the evil Superhero, talked about the origins of milk fetish and how he wanted to push it to get even weirder.

“I remember it being in the script — and that’s totally to the writing team because it was so weird,” Starr said. “At first, I was looking at this mummy version of my Oedipus complex through an X-ray. [Madelyn Stillwell] She was breastfeeding, and I was missing her like that and having a jealous relationship with the child. And then at the beginning of season two, I found some of her… Homelander finds some of her breast milk in the fridge, shines a laser on it, starts drinking it, and gets caught.

“This is so funny and weird, I think I’ve got Eric [Kripke] After that scene, I got an email saying, “Man, we have to put milk in this show as much as possible. This is going to be a little theme or a signature thing. We have to do this.” He said, “Man, I’m ahead of you. I’m going to incorporate it into everything.” So now every chance we get, milk comes up. We don’t have to do anything about it. If I just watch someone drink milk, it’s a twist. It’s become a really fun thing. The fans really love it. And they enjoy it.”

The Boys was renewed for a fifth season back in May ahead of schedule, and despite some recent comments from showrunner Eric Kripke, it turns out this will be the final season, so enjoy those milk jokes.
