Actually, a total of five films were planned for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But apparently nothing will come of it.
After director David Yates spoke at the end of last year that the second major Harry Potter film series would at least take a break, things are now looking a whole lot bleaker.
Fantastic beasts can no longer be found (for now).
Von ComicBook When asked about a possible Fantastic Beasts 4, the actor playing Newt Scamander takes the wind out of his sails. The 42-year-old actor currently doesn’t believe that Dumbledore’s Secrets will continue in 2022:
I think that [die Fans] Newt probably [zum letzten Mal gesehen haben]. That’s a pretty open answer, but yeah. That’s my current status. You’d have to talk to the people at Warner Bros. and JK Rowling. But as far as I know, that’s it.

However, this finding doesn’t really come as a surprise. While the very first film managed to gross over 800 million worldwide with a budget of 200 million US dollars, the following parts looked increasingly meager (via Box Office Mojo).
The third film only grossed $405 million at the same cost and should have at least recouped the budget. After all, marketing still needs to be taken into account. Since the enthusiasm of critics and fans became increasingly muted, Warner Bros. may have put the original five-film plan on hold for these reasons.
