The free-to-play title Apex Legends meanwhile counts a large fan base, which in parts certainly longs for a significantly more competitive element and professional competition. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have seen the light and have now announced the Global Series.
It is a series of tournaments in Apex Legends that consists of several online and live events – but only for PC players of the title. However, these can dust off properly, because overall it will cost more than $ 3 million.
The Global Series will initially include 12 worldwide live events, hosted by EA and Respawn themselves, or produced by well-known eSports organizations such as the PGL or the GLL. Battlefy is supporting the mentioned online competition by registering for the opening of the first event, which is to take place on January 25, 2020. The registration phase begins in early January 2020.
According to the makers, the tournament series is an open ecosystem. Players from more than 60 countries are eligible and can play upwards if they also meet the age requirements and the PC System Requirements and other conditions of participation. In the online competitions you can then qualify for regional challenger events and global premier events. In total, you collect points and the top-ranked players are then invited to the four Global Series Majors.
The first three majors each have 100 triple squads with players from all over the world. The fourth major, the Apex Legends Global Series Championship, is the grand finale. Only the 60 best teams in the Apex Legends Global Series are invited to receive $ 1 million prizes and the title of Global Series World Champion. The games will be played in match point format, which has already made its debut and has been well received. In this format, the final teams must achieve a certain score through a combination of placement and cumulative kills.
The first major tournament is scheduled for March 13-15, 2020 at Arlington's eSports Stadium.
