pinnacle hero Season 16 is upon us, bringing with it highly anticipated game modes, but no new characters.
Fans have been asking for a Team Deathmatch mode for a long time, and if you’re such a fan, you’ll be happy to hear it’s coming to Apex Legends Season 16. It’s a pretty romantic affair, as the new mode launches on February 14th (the perfect time to play Apex with your special someone) alongside the latest season’s title, Revelry.
Game mode designer Marty Wong said of Team Deathmatch (thanks Kotaku): “We’ve been hearing community requests for this for a while now.” The mode isn’t any different than any other version of the popular mode in numerous shooters : It pits 6 players against each other, if you die you respawn quickly, whoever hits 30 first wins the round. Play two rounds and the game is yours. simple!
This season does come with some caveats, though. For one, Arenas was eliminated, and as Design Director Evan Nikolich explained, the mode didn’t “achieve our goal of being a great place to practice Apex’s core combat loop.” “Arenas should be a small part of our BR,” Wong explained.
“The end result is that it’s a more strenuous, higher-stakes mode. A lot of players go into it feeling like they can’t make mistakes or really try, they always have to play really hard” Wong noted that the team wanted Team Deathmatch Will be an opportunity for players to “die fast and make mistakes with peace of mind”.
Another caveat is that no new characters are introduced this season, but there will be a lot of major changes to all of them. To start, each character will be assigned to one of six classes: Assault, Scout, Control, Skirmisher, and Support, with more details on those classes coming later this week. Each class will also come with a Combat Skill, Wraith, Lifeline, and Seer will get some more specific updates, and you can expect to hear more soon.
