Earlier this year, Samsung released the S8 Ultra, a tablet that measures a full 14.6 inches diagonally. According to a report by The Information Apple wants to go one step further next year with an iPad that measures an impressive 16-inch screen diagonal.
According to Wayne Ma of The Information, the tablet is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2023. However, he doesn’t specify where this giant iPad will fit into the already confusing lineup of iPads. Wayne Ma assumes that Apple should bring the tablet series even closer to the MacBook. A size of 16 inches makes sense in this regard, since this screen size also represents Apple’s largest laptop.
Will we see Apple’s MacOS laptop operating system on iPads in the future?, is still in the stars for the time being. However, the tablets are, at least technically, almost on the same level as the MacBooks.
In addition to the new M2 chip and the Retina XDR display, the most expensive model, i.e. the 12.9-inch iPad, even has 16 GB of RAM (depending on the configuration). Aside from the hardware, software features like the Stage Manager are also integrated into the Pro iPads.
Not only a 16-inch iPad could follow
Also Mark Gurman from Bloomberg is said to have learned that Apple has started to develop larger iPads. The journalist reports this in his newsletter Power On
. However, the Apple expert does not assume that we can look forward to the giant tablet next year. Mark Gurman also thinks it’s possible that Apple could scrap the idea again.

If both rumors are true, then the iPad line-up would be supplemented with a 14.1 and 16 inch model.
The price should be steep
Apple recently equipped the iPad Pro with the M2 chip and its performance is closer to the MacBooks than ever before. But the new tablet models don’t just come up trumps in terms of computing power, but also in terms of price. The cheapest version of the 12.9-inch M2 model costs a whopping $1,449.
With these enormous sums, you can imagine how much a 16-inch offshoot with a possible M3-Chip
would cost (if the chip series is continued in this way). The giant tablet from Samsung, the S8 Ultra, on the other hand, is comparable with a starting price of $1,149 cheap
